What City Lights is asking for

City Lights is the going-out-at-night theme with a very specific twist: the outfit should look like it is being lit by a city rather than by daylight. That means a dark base — black, midnight blue, deep wine — with as much reflective surface as you can stack on top. Sequins, patent leather, metallic thread, glass jewellery, anything that would throw back a streetlight or a neon sign.

It overlaps with several themes but resolves cleanly: Old Hollywood is warm and vintage, Midnight Masquerade needs a mask, Movie Star is red carpet. City Lights is contemporary, urban and slightly cold.

Building it without VIP

  • Sparkling Dress is the most direct free answer, and it does the whole job on its own.
  • Separates route: Sparkly Top with Sparkly Skirt or Slit Zipper Skirt in black.
  • Cutout Tube Top with a Pencil Skirt and metallic accessories is the sleeker version.
  • Strappy High Heels or Buckle Pumps; a small bag, never a large one.
  • Makeup: high-shine, sharp liner. Attitude Makeup or Kissy Makeup both fit.

Colour and silhouette

Keep 80% of the outfit dark and let the reflective 20% do all the work. A completely silver outfit reads as Y3K; a mostly black outfit with silver highlights reads as City Lights. Silhouette is sleek and body-following — this is not a volume theme.

What loses votes

  • Daytime colour. Pastels and warm neutrals fight the whole premise.
  • All-over sparkle. Contrast is what makes the reflections read.
  • Casual shoes. Sneakers push it toward a street theme instead.
