What Dystopia is asking for

Dystopian fiction dresses its people in one of two ways, and the strongest builds commit fully to one.

The state-issued citizen. Identical grey or drab uniform, a number or badge, hair regulation-neat, nothing personal. The horror is the sameness.

The scavenger or rebel. Patched and layered clothing, wrapped limbs, improvised straps, a gas mask or goggles, dirt. The horror is what happened to make this necessary.

Blending them — a pristine uniform with artful rips — reads as a costume rather than a world. Pick one.

Building it without VIP

Rebel route (easier from free items):

• Rag Corset and Rag Skirt, or Brat Rag Skirt, for the shredded layer.
• Bandages wrapped on arms or legs.
• Baggy Cargos with a Utility Belt and stacked straps.
• Balaclava, goggles, or a mask over the lower face.
• Corpse Makeup or Stretched Makeup desaturated for grime.

Uniform route:

• Uniform Top and Uniform Skirt, or Button-Down Shirt with Pencil Skirt, all colour-picked to the same flat grey.
• Big Belt, a badge-read accessory, plain flat shoes.
• Hair scraped back completely, no jewellery, no makeup beyond flat neutral.

Colour and silhouette

Concrete grey, sackcloth, rust and oil black. Nothing saturated — drag the colour picker toward grey on every item. Uniform silhouettes are boxy and identical; rebel silhouettes are layered and asymmetric with weight low.

What loses votes

• Mixing the two sides. Neither read survives.
• Clean and colourful. Dystopia is drained by definition.
• Sexy post-apocalypse. It fights the premise; practicality reads better.
