What Freeplay is

Freeplay Mode released on 17 May 2024. It strips out the two constraints that define a normal round: there is no theme and no time limit. Up to 17 players share a Freeplay server, and it receives updates at the same time as the main game.

That makes it the practical workshop of Dress to Impress. Anything you want to build carefully — a duo look, a complicated layered outfit, a theme you keep losing — belongs here first.

What has been added over time

Freeplay has grown considerably since launch:

  • 19 October 2024 — Dressing Booths introduced, letting players load their saved outfits.
  • Summer 2025 — a house and studios were added outside the Freeplay zone, with interactables: beds, showers, stoves, fireplaces, seats (couches, beach chairs, pool tubes), computers and sinks, each with custom animation and audio. Dressing Booths were also placed outside the Freeplay zone.
  • 30 August 2025 — the Lana Doll mini-quest, completable only in Freeplay.
  • 20 September 2025 — Scarlet’s Treasure Hunt, including a hidden section called Scarlet’s Secret that unlocks an extra Lana Doll toggle.
  • Halloween 2025 — a small town outside Freeplay with a Jack-O-Lantern statue, a reworked Recording Studio exterior, and trick-or-treating at the houses.
  • 4 July 2026 — a new Brazil-themed Freeplay map for Summer 2026.

What to actually use it for

Save outfits properly. Build in Freeplay, save, and the outfit is loadable from a Dressing Booth in any mode. This is the single biggest time saver in the game — a saved base outfit turns a six-minute build into a two-minute adjustment.

Practise the themes you keep losing. Pull a theme from the theme wheel, build it with no clock, and work out where the read breaks.

Run the quests. The Lana Doll and Scarlet’s Treasure Hunt are Freeplay-only, and both unlock items you cannot get anywhere else.

Test hair combos. Layering hairstyles takes trial and error, and doing it against a timer wastes the round. See the hair combos guide.

Themes in Freeplay

Because Freeplay has no theme, players run their own — which is why “themes for freeplay” is a common search. Two ways to do it:

  • Spin the theme wheel and build whatever comes up.
  • Agree a theme with the other players in the server and treat it as an informal round.

If you want a named theme forced in a live round instead, you need the Custom Theme Prop (75 Robux, or free from the Baddie Pass).
