What Retro Revival is asking for

Revival is a different instruction from Decades. Decades asks you to build a period accurately. Revival asks you to take one period element and wear it in a contemporary outfit — the way vintage actually gets worn now.

So the structure is: one strong retro anchor (a 70s flare, a 60s shift, a 50s circle skirt, a 90s slip dress) plus modern pieces around it (current sneakers, current bag, current hair). The result should look like something a person would wear today, not like a costume.

The 1970s is the most commonly revived era and the safest pick, because its silhouette — high waist, wide leg, earth tones — sits closest to contemporary shapes already.

Building it without VIP

• Bootcut Jeans or Lace-up Flared Jeans as the retro anchor.
• Collared Sweater, Comfy Sweater or a ribbed knit in mustard or burnt orange.
• Modern counterweight: Chunky Sneakers or clean boots, a simple bag, contemporary hair.
• Cat-Eye Glasses or oversized frames for the period nod.
• Keep jewellery gold and chunky rather than delicate.
