What Arcade is asking for

Arcade is 1980s coin-op culture rendered as clothing: the neon-on-black cabinet art, the pink-and-cyan grid, pixel sprites, joystick reds and yellows. It is bright, plastic and cheerful. The character is somebody spending an afternoon in a games arcade, not somebody living inside a machine.

That cheerfulness is the whole differentiator. Cyberpunk uses similar neon but is grimy and dystopian. Y3K uses similar hardware references but is cold chrome. Arcade is the fun one — if your outfit looks dangerous, you have missed.

Building it without VIP

• Cropped Track Jacket or Men’s Track Jacket is the strongest free anchor — sportswear in loud colour is the core of the look.
• Denim Mini Skirt or Baggy Cargos underneath, with a Ribbed Tank Top or graphic-style tee.
• Chunky Sneakers or Buffalo Sneakers — footwear matters here more than usual; heels kill the theme.
• Accessories carry the era: Star Sunglasses, scrunchies, Hoop Earrings, a Boombox or Music Player as a prop.
• Galaxy Glam Makeup or bright graphic eye makeup finishes it.

Colour and silhouette

Hot pink, cyan, electric yellow and purple on black. Use at least three of them — Arcade is one of the few themes where a clashing palette is correct. The silhouette is casual and slightly oversized: cropped top, high-waisted bottom, big jacket, big shoes.

What loses votes

• A gown. Arcade is streetwear; formal reads as the wrong theme entirely.
• Two colours only. Under-saturated Arcade looks like generic 80s.
• Heels. Sneakers or nothing.
